Camry Exhaust System Tips

Toyota Camry

The best selling car in the United States for most years since 2000 has been the Toyota Camry, a five passenger sedan that is built in Georgetown, Ky. This vehicle, previously also available as the Camry Solara, a sport coupe or convertible, has always stood for rock solid value and quality, attributes that bring customers back to Toyota showrooms time and again.

The Toyota Camry has been in production since 1983 when Toyota retired its trustworthy rear-wheel-drive Corona sedan, replacing it with the front-wheel-drive Camry. The current model represents the sixth generation Camry and was introduced in 2007. The seventh generation Camry is expected to debut for the 2012 model year.

Fourth Generation

On sale for five model years from 1997 to 2001, the fourth generation Toyota Camry is powered by a 2.2-liter four cylinder engine paired with a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission. This engine is rated at 133 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 147 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm. Optionally, a 3.0-liter V-6 engine paired with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission is also used, rated at 194 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 209 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm.

Fifth Generation

Sold from 2002 to 2006, the fifth generation Toyota Camry had its base engine upgraded to 2.4 liters while the V-6 returned unchanged. The four cylinder engine is rated at 154 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 160 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm. Performance for the V-6 dropped slightly, however, with the 2006 model rated at 190 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 197 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm.

Sixth Generation

Sold from 2007 to 2011, the sixth generation Toyota Camry is powered by a base 2.5-liter four or an optional 3.5-liter V-6 engine. A hybrid Camry is also available and the Camry Solara is now discontinued. The four cylinder engine is mated with a standard six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic with shifting capabilities. The V-6 offers the automatic only. The 16-valve base engine is rated at 169 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 167 foot-pounds of torque at 4,100 rpm. The 24-valve V-6 engine is rated at 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 248 foot-pounds of torque at 4,700 rpm.

The Camry Hybrid is rated at 192 horsepower, divided with 147 horsepower derived from its 2.4-liter four and 45 horsepower offered by its electric motor. This model utilizes a continuously variable transmission and is rated at 138 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm.

Customizing your Camry can help set it apart from a sea of similar packaged models, allowing you to express yourself with customized grilles, sport wheels and assorted light treatments. Under the hood, improved performance can be realized with a super chip or even a nitrous oxide system for your sporty Camry Solara.
